City Storage

The City Storage project in Emeryville, CA was a conversion of an existing 36,000-square-foot single-story brick warehouse building into a 63,277-square-foot two-story self-storage facility with a third-floor manager’s apartment. We retained the brick shell but completely gutted the interior and added a new steel framed structure. Behind the brick, we added a new concrete wall that extends above the brick walls to accommodate the new 2nd floor. Folded Corten steel panels cover the exposed concrete and make a distinctive pattern around the top of the building. The project features ground-floor parking and future retail tenant space at the corner of the building. There are 578 storage units, including 94 units built for wine storage.
